The Gentle Cycling Company is sited in a rural oasis in Stoke, a sleepy suburb just 15 minutes by car from the center of Nelson. We share a site with Nikau Gardens, a native plant nursery. The established trees are a great addition to our environment here. Our building is an old farm shed, built when this area of Stoke was still agricultural.
Our booking office was originally a tiny shearing shed – thus the slatted wooden floor and the tiny door. The one and only shearing machine was on the wall above that miniature, sheep-sized door. We enjoyed retaining the origins of the building when altering it for its new cycling role.
We have a scheduled daily door-to-door shuttle service from Nelson city to our base, leaving the city at 9am and returning at either 2.15pm or 5.15pm. And we can carry plenty of bikes on the bike trailer, which we use when doing bike and cyclist drop-offs along the Great Taste Trail.
