If you are a lover of Craft Beer and you can ride a bike we have a brilliant beery bike-ride for you! New Zealand’s only Great Taste Beer ride is a no sweat way to visit 3 breweries, taste the brews and chat to the brewers, using the bike to get from one brewery to the next. And it’s almost all on cycle trails around the sleepy suburb of Stoke.
We have packaged it all up to make it super-easy and the ride includes a shuttle pickup from Nelson city to our base in Stoke. After the pre-ride briefing, it will be time to jump on the bikes (with maps attached for easy navigation and cyclist support just a phone call away) and head off to a country pub for morning tea. Then it’s off to the first of the 3 breweries, just 3.5 km away. At Bays Brewery, the tasting includes pilsners, ales and an all natural lemonade. Peter the brewer has been making the stuff for over 20 years so he really knows what he’s doing. Back on the cycleway, the next stop is is at Lighthouse Brewery. Here, Dick the brewer will keep you entertained with his capacious range of stories and infectious enthusiasm for all things beery. And you can take home a bottle of Dick’s Cycle Trail Ale too. In the afternoon, you will have time to visit the other two breweries near by – that’s McCashins (that famous Nelson brewing family) and Eddyline. Eddyline Brewery is new to Nelson, and bring their American beer styles to widen the range of flavours. So for beer lovers, this easy bike route is just the thing!
