Heaphy Track Wings & Wheels MTB Tour

We’ll shuttle you and your bikes from Nelson to the top of Takaka hill. You ride the Rameka track to Takaka where you board the plane to Karamea.
Ride up to Heaphy hut for the night and enjoy a blissful night under the stars.
Day 2, ride the rest of the Heaphy Track and we’ll transport you back to Nelson for dinner time (or take two nights – you book the huts you want).
This tour works best with a group of 4. E-bikes not permitted on the Heaphy track or plane.

Coppermine MTB
35km+ scenic loop track with shuttles before and afterwards = *$195pp with Full Sus MTB or $245 with Full Sus E-MTB
Take the day to explore the historic mining trail through forest and mineral belt that resembles a Martian landscape.
We’ll collect you from your base, kit you out with MTB’s and drop you at the trail head in the morning. Take a lunch and stop at waterfalls, coastal viewpoints and at some of the historic sites along the track.
The descent follows the old tram line and has a steady uphill gradient. Coppermine Saddle offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks before you begin your epic descent down one of Nelson’s best grade 4 trails.
Allow 4-7 hours depending on your fitness levels and appetite to explore.
We’ll shuttle you back to your accommodation or drop you at a fine restaurant or bar for refreshments.

The Spooner’s Tunnel tour is a marvelous day ride which takes you on a downhill adventure through forest, farms, a tunnel and along meandering rivers
Begin the day with a full briefing and bike kitting at our base. We then shuttle you up into the hills as we point out key landmarks for your day’s adventures. Disembarking in the lush hills above Nelson at the Flat Rock Café, Kohatu there’s time to stop for a coffee or a cheese scone
From here it’s a beautiful 50km off-road trail, steadily downhill and back to Nelson. You’ll be following the historic railway route and it’s interesting to read up on its creation on the information panels at various locations as you go. The scenery en route is diverse. From lush hop plantations, forest, wineries and market gardens, the Waimea plains support a diverse range of fertile habitats and delicious crops
One highlight of the day will be your ride through the Spooner’s Tunnel. This is the southern hemisphere’s longest disused rail tunnel at almost 1.4 km long, so good lights are required. The villages of Wakefield and Brightwater both have cafes and plenty of history if you take the time to explore
To finish, Eddyline and McCashin’s breweries are both close to the end of your tour, perfectly located for a celebratory drink after a wonderful day touring on two wheels. If there’s time, you may wish to deviate towards the Waimea estuary and take in a winery and some stunning coastal scenes.
